This year again saw the German universities of Munich and
Stuttgart (home of BMW and Mercedes
Benz respectively) take first and
second, however the University
of Hertfordshire team was an
excellent 3rd in Class 1. UH
is only one of a number of UK
universities who are supported by
DMS technologies - with Varley Red
Top batteries.
Another of the teams, Warwick,
also featured, winning Class 2A,
and their Class 1 team had to
overcome a broken chassis to
maintain their challenge. The
two Merseysiders, Liverpool and
Liverpool John Moores, featured in
the top half of the table of 79
competitors, along with other Varley Red
Top supported race teams included
Birmingham, Portsmouth and
Coventry.
Unfortunately, Dave Claxton,
DMS' marketing manager, chose to
visit on the Saturday - a very wet
day indeed, as can be seen from the
photos appearing here!
Organised annually by the Institute
of Mechanical Engineers, the event
includes Formula Student teams from
around the world including North
America and Australia as well as
India and of course Europe.
Following the Silverstone event, in
early August the teams go on to
Hockenheim (home of the 2012 German F1
GP) for Formula Student Germany,
then to Györ for FS Hungary.
