Le Mans Result
The vast Le Mans winning experience of the Audi Sport team really showed when the heavens opened and the rain fell. Their main rivals Peugeot had chosen to run a full dry set-up whilst Audi went for a set-up which would provide high levels of performance in all conditions. Although the Peugeot was the faster car, this set-up error and a number of technical issues involving poor visibility (due to the enclosed canopy) and overheating resulted in the Audi of
McNish, Capello and Kristensen taking top honours in the LMP1 class. Although the top six places were filled with diesel powered Audi’s and Peugeot’s, in seventh was the top petrol powered car of
Pescarolo, which was running a Varley Red Top racing battery.
In LMP2, Van Merksteijn Motorsport came through to win in their Porsche RS
Spyder, a car which Varley Red Top batteries are specified into by Porsche Motorsport GmbH. The Prodrive Aston Martin driven by
Brabham, Garcia and Turner won the GT1 class sporting a fantastic Gulf colour scheme of old. DMS work very closely with Prodrive on a number of projects including Aston Martin Racing and as such, a Varley Red Top battery was used. GT2 was won by Risi Competizione in a Ferrari 430 GT.
There were a large number of competitors running Varley Red Top racing batteries at Le Mans 24 Hour 2008 and we scored two class wins (and one unofficial class win with Pescarolo being the first non-diesel to finish), which further emphasises the racing pedigree and endurance of our product.

WRC Turkey
Congratulations to the M-Sport run Ford Focus RS WRC 07 cars of Hirvonen and
Latvala, who took a fantastic one-two finish in Turkey with Citroen’s C4 WRC of Leob coming in third. In an event which involved the clever use of tactics by M-Sport (dropping back at the end of each day so someone else had to clear the road or loose gravel), the top five cars were constantly close which made for an exciting rally. The M-Sport cars both run Varley Red Top batteries.

Le Mans 24 Hour 2008
There are a
number of teams competing in Le Mans 24 hour 2008 which will be
relying on Varley Red Top racing batteries to keep their cars
running.
The two most popular batteries for use in this type of event are
the 12V 37Ah RT40 and 12V 51Ah RT60. The large capacity of these
batteries means that, even with an alternator failure, the car
could still run off the battery and get back to the pits for
repair. This is a big benefit to the teams who invite their
biggest sponsors to the event and need to put in a good
performance out on track.
Resistance to shock and vibration is one of the main
requirements of a motorsport battery, especially with ever
increasing engine revs and use of carbon fibre. The high level
of durability designed into each Varley Red Top racing battery
makes them the number one choice for endurance racers.
DMS technologies wish all competitors using our products good
luck for the race.
